kendellrt Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 My battery back up is pretty much no good anymore, and I use it just as an extension cord, so I always power down.
spathalogic Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 will fry anyways Not if you un-plug everything . My dad is crazy because he has done and still does TONS of work with electronic sound equipment (no not synthesizers you fools ) and has still gotten things friend with a good surge protector, ofcourse, I'd bet that ones "nowadays" are a bit better . I still turn off/ un-plug everything during our lightning and thunder storms we occasionally get here in Montana ().
ClayMeow Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 i didn't vote because it depends on the situation. If there's a bad storm out and the lights already flickered, then I'll shut my computer, but generally I wouldn't. I shut off my comp at night anyways, so if it's close to when I'm going to sleep, I'll just call it a night.
r_target Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Virginia (well, the South in general) has wicked thunderstorms. I turn it off and unplug it. I've tempted fate too many times as it is.
lt_navvara Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 nope, i am protected, besides, no matter how much protection or whether it is on or off, if you take a direct enough hit, it will fry anyways not if u disconect the computer from the main wall socket i alwais turned off my comp, my old house got hit by lightning 3 times (it's kinda gard to explain why) and one time my comp almost got fryed. please note that turning off your computer isn't enough u have to take out the phone line/cable/wahtever tipe of internet you are using from your modem or it will fry and take the rest of your comp with it. an old p2 met it's end that way, the day i wanted to sell it, dang
