edge929 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I'm sure there are many people out there that have done some type of variation on turning a fridge/freezer into a computer case, so if anyone has any info, links, pics, I'd love to see them as I'm interested in doing this myself. Thanks.
RADEON Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 ive never seen it and heres why:if u put all your components into that cold eviroment the heat from them will couse condensation(water on your components) and that intern will fry your comp. thiers pretty much no way to maintane a working computer in such a cold eviroment, not yet anyway. kanbeki Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 You can easily turn a fridge into a pc, you just can't plug it in now you can use the fridge to build a hxc waterchiller but then the parts would be in a dif, well insulated case and ell thats just not what you want, huh? webhost Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I think this could be done. The reason for the condensation is because the air is trapped inside the fridge. If you added one hell of an exhaust system it might just work. If you do try it be sure to use an old computer that you dont care about first as testing... Cyberfury Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I'd like to see the energy bill for a fridge with one hell of an exhaust system.
fire_storm Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I have heard of someone using a mini fridge to help cool down there water cooling system. They had the raditor in the fridge and they got good temps but never heard of somone turning a fridge into a computer.
webhost Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I'd like to see the energy bill for a fridge with one hell of an exhaust system. Never thought of that... Then again where I live we don't pay for hydro so that problem wouldn't be a factor for me...
sandman1485 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Wouldn't one hell of an exhaust defeat the purpose of the fridge? If you're blowing all the cold air out before it can be replaced....you're not going to have a cool computer.
CNUco2007 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 what if you put a dehumidifier in the fridge
edge929 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 (edited) You guys crack me up. I see your points, hadn't thought about condensation, but it makes total sense. See, this is why I post before I plunge headlong into an expensive mistake. I have an old Socket 7 board with an AMD K6-III I'll try. The humidifier trick just might work. I saw this done once and I'll try to find the link with pics. EDIT: Found It http://www.ohardt.com/computer/pc.mods/project.hot.fridge/ Edited November 22, 2004 by edge929
kobalt Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 (edited) As i remember the last time oi opened the fridge, there's not much condensation in there like many peoples say, i'm not saying that there's none, there is dont get me wrong, but only when you open it when it's like 90% humid outside otherwise a fridge is constructed so there's no water dripping down your pickle jar, everybody will agree on that,so if you install your mobo and stuff in there of course your fridge will work overtime to keep the temp it's dialed to, but i dont think condensation will be a real problem I would install the drives,CD and HDD's outside though but everything else i'd shove in Also a couple of high CFM fan in there to circulate the cold would also help Keep us posted on it , it's always fun to follow a good mod Edited November 22, 2004 by kobalt
94Camaro Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 kobalt, the reason you don't see condensation in the fridge when you open it is because everything is about the same temp. There is moisture in the air that is inside the fridge. When you add something that produces heat, such as a cpu, the temp difference would cause condensation to form on the cpu. That is why a glass of ice water sweats when it is sitting in a warm room. The temperature difference between the cool glass and warm room causes moisture in the air to condense on the glass. The same thing would happen with the components in the fridge, unless the air was extremely dry.
