lordofbeer Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Ok, I 've been called upon lately to install a bunch of wireless routers. I'm having problems setting up the security settings. I've tried WEP, WPA. Last week I set up one and it got to the point where it asked for a password on the laptop; I enter it, and then it times out saying it cannot locate IP address. I went into the wireless connection properties and everything is 0.0.0.0 Then i go back and log into the router from the desktop and disable all encryption and leave it an unprotected connection and it works fine, it finds the IP right away and the internet pops up. What could be wrong?

CNUco2007 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 anytime you have IP problems, first thing you try should be IPCONFIG /RELEASE and IPCONFIG /RENEW
lordofbeer Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 t hanks, for now I'm just leaving it unprotected. As long as it works, they are not complaining. <_< that was my third one I set up in the past 3 weeks. I enabled the firewall and told them everything should be ok. yeah, i released and renewed several times, it was driving me crazy. I went into the wireless card setting and matched the settings that were on the router... still nothing

lilkev715 Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 Which software were you using to configure the connection? I have had pretty good luck with XP SP2 wireless connection config.
