rh535 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 i lapped my intel stock heatsink and when i started my computer i got no video and no beeps. Also after i appiled thermal compound nad started my computer and then saw that there where little ripples in the thermal compound. All my fans work and i get a green light on the front of the case. WhAT SHOULD I DO? here are some pics ripple in the thermal compound http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/sup...25/P1010007d.jp Before lapping heatsink http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/sup...5/P1010023c.jpg After lapping heatsink http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/sup...5/P1010004d.jpg

fire_storm Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 I have had the same problem before fan turn on lights in the case the lights in the front of the case lights were not working. no video tryied replacing video card did work. I did the ram test by removing the ram and turning it on if it beeps then your mb is good but if it does not then the mb may be busted. Also try removed the battery for a while and putting it back in but don t turn on your computer when the battery is not in the mb. Also try resting the cmos. Also try removing the video cardand putting it back in. Turned out for me the motherboard was broken and I had to get a new one. computergee Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Not sure but maybe when you lapped it some specks of metal good onto the mobo and is shorting it out? Im not sure but its a possiblility.
visK Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 are u supposed to have compound in that hole there ?
CNUco2007 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 try cleaning it off, putting a small ball of it in the center, then setting the heatsink ontop if it. thats how Arctic Silver does it. you can check out their site for better instructions. it just look like you put it on wierd or something. idk. good luck lol
anthony Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 1st of all you put too much, notice how iut leaked off the IHS and onto the pcb? clean all of it off with a lint free cloth, then re apply, put a small amount and take a bag, use the bag to spread it out, then put your hs ontop and move it around to spread out the thermal paste. Take the HS off and check how it applied, if its good, aka no spilling over and covered fully with a tin layer, put the hs back on and move it around again, then attach the hs. are u supposed to have compound in that hole there ? that is not a hole, that is a marking . O and the lapping could be better, there are still very very obvious scratches on it. markiemrboo Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 I thought one job of thermal compounds was to fill in the small scratches, so it shouldn't matter all that much? I hear anything over 600grit doesn't have any big noticable differences, so long as it's flat. Anyhow.. that stuff dripping over the edge doesn't look much like thermal compound of any sort to me? the goop on the bottom right hand corner of the green pcb part of the chip is like...clear. You can see half of the small gold circle through it.
