HomerJaySimpson Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 I need more ram. I've currently got 2x256 sticks of OCZ 4000 and i want to get another 512mb cause games like Doom 3 and Far Cry depend on it. Thing thats bothering me though is, i've read that filling all 4 dimm slots aint a great idea. Especially when they're all 256mb each...So im not sure whether to add another 2 sticks to my current setup or buy 2x512 sticks? I think i heard too that Abit boards do not like all slots running in dual channel. Help!
gravy Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 i am also running 2x256 OCZ ram and am planning on getting 2x256 more to make a gig, i am sure it will be fine as long as they are the same make and model
HomerJaySimpson Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Yeh i was thinking that...It would work out a lot cheaper just buying another 512 too. I was just a little worried about some things i've been reading about the IC7 and full dimm slots. Ill check out the Abit forums... Hey, we have an identical setup
gravy Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 yeah, let me know if you find a good reason not to do what we are thinking about, because i am very close to getting that other set of ram, thanks p.s., if you could post a link to the thread over there, or let me know your name registered in the abit forums that would be great, so i can track it, my name there is mashedpgravy
r_target Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 256x4 was my original plan for my IC-7 until I read all the horror stories at the Abit forums. You will lose your PAT/GAT (mine is set to a-n-a-d-d and it still makes a big difference in memory bandwidth having it enabled), and any OCing will be really hindered. I was not happy to learn this after I got the IC-7.
HomerJaySimpson Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Yeah i was reading about the PAT not working with 4 slots filled...But i never use the PAT anyway and from what i hear, it doesn't make a difference in gaming. So i think ill stick with my original plan instead of paying 3 times more for 2x512 sticks
