no im not a hacker, anyways my question is, i use game spy arcade, is there any way to find out the IP's of ppl in the lobby, (names listed at right of screen), i want to know because, I like identifying name changers, i know there is a way, cause one guy knows my IP by heart, said he knows my using " a way".

well if he know your ip it's a good idea to change it then

he can find loads of stuff about you can like address, bank account numbers and much more

well sorry to tell you this but if you use gamespy arcade then your ip address is public information due to the fact that you must use your ip address to connect to gamespy..... no matter what ip you use - anyone at any given time can get it -

 

but dont worry - not ALL of your information is available through just your ip addy - there are such things as privacy laws that restrict certain information from being obtained

 

but it "is" possible to find out certain details about your ip rather easily - but as for "bank account numbers" i HIGHLY doubt it cause unless you set up your internet connection with a creditcard or online checking then that information has nothing to do with your internet connection

 

if you are that worried about someone having your ip addy then you shouldnt play online games OR you should invest in a router with security settings implimented

 

anyone playing an online game with someone else online has free range to see your ip addy at any given time - its just a matter of knowledge that would allow someone to get to that information - which is easily gotten through most games console menu's

 

another way to keep safe - is USE COMPLEX PASSWORDS AND USERNAMES for your network shares and computer log ins and users

 

example:

 

instead of just "username" "password"

 

make it:

"%2#UserNamE_2" and "54_PassWorD_9#2"

 

using complex passwords are almost impossible to "crack" and ensure that your data will be safe

i know, im not worried, i have nothing on my computer that i have to worry about, but how would i find thier IP's using GSA? (gamespy arcade)

even using AIM subjects you to leaving your IP sitting out there in the open for someone to find, most programs do

Though I have never sone it, I knew a few guys who did on WON servers a year or so back.

 

Just run a google on ip sniffers.

 

Something liek that.

 

You most likely are dealing with either a script kiddy like Devil said or just some lonely drama queen looking for some excitement.

Ok, I don't have direct experiance with gamespy, but if I wanted to track down an IP address of some one, I would first find out how the chat network is setup.

 

For example, AIM has all traffic going through dedicated servers. So, the actual IP addresses for people are translated there, and very hard to get. However, if game spy does not do this, I would use a good network sniffer to find out... Ethereal is a good (free!) sniffer, btw.. I use it all the time.

 

You should be able to associate the chat text with the source and destination addresses fairly easy..
