bravo23 Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Hello all, I know nothing about Linux. I just put Fedora Core 2 on my laptop instead of Windows. I noticed in the lower right of my screen an icon that says something like aprox. 160 available updates. Since I have know idea which ones I need or don't need, I've been trying to download all of 'em. It's been sortta difficult though. I got an error "There was an RPM error. The message was: Error reading header". Any help?
Aristotle Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Just ignore the updates unless your laptop is running a server of some sort. The RHN update feature will cause more trouble than solutions I am afraid. Just keep trying :/
bravo23 Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 I've found that out. 3 days now and 2 or 3 installations, and I still can't update everything on there, thx anyways.
clamothe Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Well fedora is free, and popular, so Redhat really doesn't put much money into serving em all new updates.. If you have a paid RHN account, you can use a uberfast server, but otherwise...

KraZy Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Some easy ways to upgrade FC2. Dowload one (or both!) of these programs: YUM (an updated Yellow Dog linux updater..)-- http://linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/ APT -- http://freshrpms.net/apt/ I -think- that yum is installed already with the FC2 distro, but it doesnt hurt to get the upgrade. I use a combination of them both to update all the software on my PCs and it usually does a good job. I have had -slight- problems with YUM, but they were not too hard to work out. Also, there are better yum.conf files out there to use and stay away from the stock one... it is as slow as the RH updater. Both of these take into account all the installed RPMs that you have and should upgrade them all. Take note that these programs will also upgrade your kernel automatically as well, so you will have to specify manually if you do not wish this to happen. I somehow missed this post originally Well, just so you know, the official is out for everyone, they just say it's only for members, so you want to become a member, you just need to click the bottin that says "I am a member, or, I'm thinking of becoming a member" and it'll ltake you to the official downloads for the "Download Edition"
