ill_industries Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 i am stuck and need help with my AT motherboard need to know how to turn on the power supply the mobo that im using is out of an old IBM Aptiva 1996 i think 200MHz pentium with MMX mobo model # fru 93h2477 i have all the ps connections installed correctly all the other plugs are correct there was one small black 3 pin connector with red white black wires going into it that plug installed into the rear of the mobo so my guess is that a main power button plugs into the mobo somewhere?? i also have no locations to plug in the HD LED i will look for more info, but as of now i cant find anything useful

tazwegion Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Ok... the AT (flavour) PSU's turn on without any wire trick (unlike the ATX ) If the PSU doesn't have a flying lead w/ switch, then chances are it's actually an ATX PSU (which requires mobo initialisation ) however... if you have placed the mobo AT connector in the wrong sequence (which is easy to do as they WILL fit)... it will also NOT power up Here is the correct AT connectors/sequence... bigred Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 okay, find the FCC ID # for the motherboard. go to the FCC website. you will find who made the board for IBM, when, where and everything along those lines. from there go the board makers website, find directions there. ill_industries Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 ive got an ibm serial, some long # and the board model # nothing indicates fcc that i can find i cant believe nobody on this site has knowlege of old hardware this power switch setup wasnt that uncommon 4 pin plug with wires red, white, black, blue the only pic i found is too blurry http://www.impactcomputers.com/76h1613.html#
bigred Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 problem is IBM. Iditot Built Machines. they can't do anything in a normal way. and they dont' let many shops fix them. of course there's thier propriatary nature.... IBM's way or no way. the FCC ID # is more than likely in 1 of 3 places. on top of the LPT port, on the side of the last pci slot or the bottom of the board (take it out). tazwegion Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 I cant believe nobody on this site has knowlege of old hardware, this power switch setup wasnt that uncommon... 4 pin plug with wires red, white, black, blue Gees don't have a cow... we're trying to help, we can only go off what you're telling us Okay, your m/board is # fru 93h2477 also marketed as P/N 93H6839, you said the model was IBM Aptiva 1996... but that mobo serial corresponds with the Aptiva 2161/2162 series, according to the IBM specifications @ IBM support. Further parts reference no.s @ parts list Additionally none of my AT generation computers have such a power switch setup (they all have a flying lead w/ switch @ the end ) however the on/off switch (on yours) is either 2/3 pin, as indicated by the (IBM) illustration below... J22 Power Supply 2-pin connector (On/off switch) J23 Power Supply 3-pin connector (Aux 5 V dc) Viva La Retro! the search engine of choice! ill_industries Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 thanks a TON it turned on! YAY!! when i said it was an ibm aptiva 1996 1996 was the year it was made not model #
NCC10281982B Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 (which is easy to do as they WILL fit)... it will also NOT power up It will also cause damage. I'm herd stories of red to red triping the breaker for the whole building and frying the mobo. The psu survived. If this is an at psu the wires that go to where the switch should are carrying mains vltage. The last time I played with this ventage of hardware was my a+ final. The sequence went 1. hook it up 2. hit the switch 3. pray So what are you going to do with your dinasour?
tazwegion Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 thanks a TON it turned on! YAY!! No worries, I found out all that information with google using only the m/board serial no. 200MMX isn't all that powerful (by todays standards ), have fun with it anyways... BTW that mobo will also support a 233MMX processor
