Newport Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I am looking to sell some of my piled up compurer parts. One of those parts is an Intel motherboard that came in my old Gateway 700X. I had thought that the motherboard had quit working so i made the processor into a keychain and i sold the RAM to a member here on OCC. A few days back, i thought that maybe the power cords that run from teh case to teh mobo could of been flipped around in my haste of putting the mobo back in... I am about 80% sure that the mobo works, however, i dont want to sell a mobo that does not work... I called Microcenter and they told me that in order for them to test it out, i would need a CPU, RAM and a VGA card if needed... If anyone knows how/where i can test this mobo out, please let me know. I dont want to buy a new 533 FSB p4 and SDRAM (lmao) just to see if it works because most places wont accept returns on those kind of parts. I know Microcenter wont... i bought an 800FSB CPU and thought it would work in that mobo and it didnt... Could not return that prescott when i bought it for an arm and a leg. (this was like last spring when i had no idea about anything lmao)
kobalt Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Unfortunately there's not many ways to test a motherboard, i test them myself with the proper CPU, ram And all the stuff needed to really make it work normally. Testing one involves a risk though if the mobo was the cause of the breakdown, you can fry your ram, cpu, that's why when someone ask me to test theirs i tell them it can be costly (cost of cpu and ram) you dont have to get a top of the line P4 though, get the smallest cpu that will fit the board and if you have some, 64mb ram sticks that way you minimize the risk and cost:( But buying the stuff can be a dead end if your board is fried <_<
DECwakeboarder Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Some mobo's will boot without a cpu and ram and all that stuff, mine will let me get into the BIOS w/ just my GFX card plugged in
kobalt Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 (edited) Usually mobo's will beep for those (cpu, ram etc.) Edited October 25, 2004 by kobalt
