im2phonee Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I have 3 Gigs of OCZ DDR3200 Ram in my system. My Chaintech 9CJS Zenith mobo will handle 4 Gig's. Will the extra Gig make that much of a differance?
Bionix Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Personally 1 gig is plenty for me..... For you... that 4th gig will probobly make little to no difference unless you REALLY multitask.

The only way you would use 4 gigs if you rendered so much that hell blew over
InvaderTrax Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 For most people, 1GB is more than enough. Do you do a lot of 3D animations? Cause that'll really pull some RAM. Just about everything else will be find with 1GB
hardnrg Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 yeah, 3D Studio Max can use a LOT of ram fairly easily... i only have 512MB of ram and my virtual memory is fixed at 2.25GB so 3DSMax can run for whatever I do... other than 3D modelling and ultra hi-res graphic design (ie. a poster or billboard made up of multiple layers at 300+ dpi) I can't really think of any reason for a desktop computer to require more than 3GB or physical ram... im2phonee Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Thanks....I was talking to a couple on line gamers I play with and they said "More Ram the better"! I said that I had plenty, but they kept insisting that I should max out my mobo. Thanks for all your information...I am going to stop with what I have! red930 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 still 4 gigs is a little overkill if you dont use high rendering application a lot of the time...and costs a hell of a lot of money if it is performance ram.
lost Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 heh... but 4 gig sounds about right for hl2
red930 Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 i dont even think the all the files combined in hl2 add up to 4 gigs
Vampire Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 LOL you already have a heck load of ram dude. I only have 512mb, I wish I got 1gb. I think 2gb is overkill and 1Gb is a good amount. *kicks self for only getting 512*
evanin Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I only have 512, and isn't even great, only PC2700. Regret that still today. I think 1-2 gigs is fine.
Ahnya Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 according to a friend that worked for an isp: one gig of ram is enough. you get performace degrades with more than that unless you're running a high end dataserver. point taken. *needs to replace her crappy 2x256 pc2100 ram fast....*
