silkster Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I've always built Athlon (T.Birds,Duron, XP) base systems, but in a few days, I'm going to receieve parts that were ordered though newegg and I'm basically new to the AMD64. Just to be on the safe side, I wanna hear from you guys, how would you apply the thermal paste? I'm getting a TT Heatsink for AMD64 CPU's and Artic Silver paste. On Socket A you always applied it to the Die, but on the 64bit, do I apply it to the entire gray area on the CPU? Need some help guys, Thanks. Raptor Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 (edited) w/e you dont do that.... ' i did that and ended ripping my cpu out of the socket with the heatsink attached*luckily the cpu's fine lol* but just put a very small dot in the center of the die on the cpu.....like the size of a pellet...and the heatsink will do the rest Edited October 23, 2004 by Raptor

Raptor Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 linkage there is a link on a pic i figured since i had a link to it it would be better its towards the bottom for amd64 cpu's
Capslock118 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 well, If your Using Arctic Silver 5, there is instructions on their web site: Artic Silver 5 Instructions You basiclly do exactly what Raptor said. Just put a small amount in the center, then take your heatsink/water block/peilter, whatever it is your using, and put in on the CPU. The core is still there, its just underneith the heatspreader, so all you need to do is put the AS5 on in the middle of the heatspreader, which would put it right on top of where the heat is comming from...then the AS5 will help transfer that heat to the heatsink or whatever your using. Its kinda pointless to put it on the whole heatspreader that the A64 comes with. [EDIT] Guess raptor got to the link faster than i did haha [/EDIT]

silkster Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I got another Question, I don't like to make so many new threads for no reason. Will This work with a AMD64 3400+ Socket 939? http://secure.newegg.com/app/CustratingRev...item=35-106-
Ghost2520 Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I think I'm gonna go ahead and order my 64 bit processor tomorrow... this doesn't make sense, why does newegg have 3.5 grams of AS5 for 11.99 when they also have 12 grams for 12.99? I think the first should be a bit cheaper.
fire_storm Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 (edited) I got the 3.5 grams of ARS for my new computer. I don t know why you need a lot of it unless you have a lot of computers to work with. You have to put it on every 5 years. But who owns a computer for 5 years. Picture of the 3.5 gram very small!!! On newegg the blow up the picture many times. Edited October 24, 2004 by fire_storm
