That particular server is under an extremely heavy load right now, which is why you are getting that error message. You can try to restart the conole a couple of times to see if you can get assigned to a different server.

You can check the Stanford server status here

glad it's not just me

so, is there any way to make it connect to a different server to get a new wu?

Stop the console and restart it until it get assigned to another server.

Thats a very familar screen with Norton Security 2003, it does not do it all the time but I have seen it try like 15 attempts before, I disable Norton and it picks a work unit right up. A few weeks back one of Stanfords Servers were down and had like 10 WU trying to send to it, they finally went when they got the server fixed.

No- not besides what I suggested. Sorry.

And road-runner, there are known issues with Folding and Norton Internet Security- I used to run NIS 2003, but I had to turn the firewall off because of problems it caused when downloading work units. Something about it corrupting the last few bytes of the WU file which caused the decompress operation to fail.
