Bionix Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 What would the amd equivialent be, folding wise for a dual p3 750 machine?
airman Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 ...like about a 1300mhz t-bird or so.
Bionix Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 so the fact that it's a dual processor machine doesnt earn it some more "folding weight"
Nemo Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Not in of itself. I have a PIII 600MHz xeon folding and it's a lot slower than any other machine- being a Xeon doesn't give it any advantage.
Bionix Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I'v been kinda bargain/trash hunting... Im trying to build the most effective retro machine for under like 150. My friend has a p3 1ghz mobo/proc he said he'd give me for 20 bucks. Another option is the dual p3 750's + board for 45 bucks. Lastly, if this duron im gettiing actuall works... how much would a board cost for it?

Ahnya Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 hehe interesting. running it as well. it seems, however, to be using every single available cpu cycle. interesting, time to see if my axp2600+ will crash under load! Â just make sure i close it before running anything massive..... games, for one.
hardnrg Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 ahnya, folding only uses SPARE cpu cycles... apparently... it also uses a fair amount of RAM... i think it uses SOME cpu cycles even when something else has higher priority... or maybe the ram it eats affects my gaming... in any case, i have it running 24/7 on 2 machines... i used to turn it off for online clan matches (it's not like there are many spare cpu cycles while gaming anyway - new games that is)
Ahnya Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 interesting. either way, when i run maya or a game, i'm gonna turn it off, cuz i could use the ram. cpu i'm not real worried about... this cpu is a beast for what i need it to do..... i'm usually just on forums, but i like to game and do 3d modelling, and 512 mb pc2100 ram just plain sucks. either way, it still kicks. folding that is....
