kendellrt Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I am considering two different upgrades from the system in my sig. Please offer opinions, they would both cost about the same. 1st option would be to upgrade current config to: XP 3200+ 2*512 PC3200 GeForce 6800 GT or 2nd option is to upgrade platform and integrate current video card, HDD, and PSU: Tt Tsunami or CoolerMaster Cavalier 3 MSI K8N Neo Platinum S939 A64 3200+ Thermalright XP-90 w/ Panaflo 92mm fan 2*512 PC 3200
DECwakeboarder Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 What are you planning to use it for??? Myself, I would go for #1 because of how much I game
kendellrt Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I do play games, so if I go for the platform change, I will sacrifice for a while and keep my current video card until I can get a better one. Does anyone think that I would encounter a bottleneck with an XP 3200+ and the 6800 GT?
InvaderTrax Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I like the one with the 6800GT
kendellrt Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Another consideration that impacts the 1st scenario is that I have an in with a local computer place, so I can get trade-in credit for my old components if I buy from them. Their prices are very competetive also.
The_Goonie Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 the 6800GT is already old...id wait....Nvidia's new video card is about to come out...i think its called... 6900 OIAM Edition
agentorange Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 And if you are going to drop that kind of cash on a video card it may as well be pci express since the newest chipsets for Intel and Amd are pci express.

And, I guess I could wait for the nForce 4 chipset to come out, but I am not really that interested in the extra cost I would incur by buying PCI-Ex, and DDR2. Now I am all confused. agentorange Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I'm pretty sure that you don't need DDR2 for nForce4. Correct me if I am wrong. AGP and PCI Express prices are pretty close, especially with the native pci cards.
