bigears Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 the radio productions are alot different to the books though. and it makes for confusing listening/reading whichever way you do them.

Aliencam Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 w00t love htose books... "what do you get when you multiply six by nine" can equal 42... when you do it two ways: way one: base 13 way two: "six" = 1+5 "nine" = 8+1 "six"*"nine"=42 1+5*8+1=42 [5*8= 40, +2, =42] don't say anything about grouping, because "1+5" means "six" and who puta parenthecies arround words??? what are you going to say? "i saw those <insert generic item, plural here> on sale for (six) for a dollar." how do you pronounce parenthecies? when reading, it is something infered, not said, so you would have said "i saw those <blah> on sale for a dollar." which has a completly different meaning... hence, no parenthecies arround the "1+5" and order of opperations says that multiplication is before addition... so ha. i love pretending to have figured out stuff that i actualy just read from a wikipedia entry...
