confuzzedintelguy Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited) but still i could git a higher overclock with a higher clock speed dont you think? i will be the first to admit i would love the bandwidth of the 939 but it still makes me wonder if it would be the smart thing to do Edited October 4, 2004 by confuzzedintelguy
Coolzero101 Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Dual Channel ram isn't that great of a performance increase. You get the same ammount of bandwith with 256x2 single as with dual, the double memory controls makes it maybe 5-10% more efficient. Im not sure what a 3400's stock speeds are, but an oc'ed 3400 is sure to out perform that. It also depends what you use it for. The 3200 might play games an un-noticably ammount smoother, while the 3400 may fold faster or benchmark higher. In my opinion the 3200+ is more practical for value to performance. confuzzedintelguy Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 ok well here is what i got so far maybe you all can tell me if this combo will be great for gaming/benching/folding/overclocking AMD Athlon 64 3200+ S939 2.0ghz 512k cache PC3700 DDR466 OCZ EB 2x256 <all i can afford will upgrade to a gig later MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum S939
LobbDogg Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Instead of getting faster memory, why not get more memory at a little bit slower speed. Cause at stock settings, the A64 will run at 400 mhz which will won't fully utilize all of PC3700 speeds. I'd get some PC3200 and match it up with the Bus of the CPU and get more ram if possible. That is unless you are leaving room to Overclock, then I can understand. But I'd still get a gig of ram as it does show noticeably. computerfreakxv Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited) You should get some of this memory, and then when you get more money you can just buy another one and upgrade to a gig. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-145-420&depa=0 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-145-521&depa=0 I have 1gig of Corsair PC-3200C2PT, (2 512mhz sticks) and they run fine/stable at 2-2-2-5, and they are also VERY cheap in price. The second stick of memory that I posted are supposed to be a little better with Ocing but If your not going to be doing some EXTREME OCing then you should be just fine with the first stick. Other then that everything else that you posted for your new AMD system looks great. That is the same set-up as I am buying from Newegg, and it's cheap as well. You can't beat the price of the new AMD 3200+ Winchester core CPU. OC it 200MHz and you have something thats better then the AMD 3500+. BabyBalrog Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Just find tight ram and OC the hell out of a 754s for a great price performance ratio. the only problem will come in upgrading
computerfreakxv Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 BTW, I have also heard somewhere that the Corsair (PC-3200)C2PT memory loves running on the MSI mobos... MSI K8N Neo / MSI K8N Neo2... Cheers
