spathalogic Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited) Looks good; just be aware that the 9200 will be a major subtractor from performance if you are going to be playing any graphically intensive computer games. You shouldnt need the harddrive cooler; I'd save that towards a better video card. Edited October 4, 2004 by Instag0

spathalogic Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Well you could just kill the harddrive cooler and get another harddrive [remember to get an IDE cable with 3 connectors; one to mainboard, a primary, and a secondary]

agentorange Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited) You might also look at the new S939 3000+ and 3200+. The price difference is small but they are faster and having a S939 mobo will future proof your machine even more. I think Monarch is the only company that has them right now but you should check it out! I used to play NFSU and my 9600 Pro seemed to be about as low as I would go with that game. A good 7200 rpm hd will deffinitely help a lot. Having a gig of ram with a 5400 rpm drive isn't very practical. agentorange Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited) There are three sockets for amd's 64 bit processors: S939, S940, and S754. S940 is for opterons and fx's, it requires registered ram (expensive stuff) and is being phased out as they switch to S939. S754 is for the first generation of Athalon 64 chips and can only do single channel ram and like the S940 is being phased out. S939 is AMD's newest socket and is the best. It supports dual channel memory and will be used for a while so if you are planning on building a new AMD machine, figure out a way to get a S939 unless you plan on upgrading within a year or so(meee lol). Here is a link to a S939 3000+ and a link to a S939 3200+. Both chips use the new 90 nm core, if anyone has seen anything about overclocking these I would be very interested! It is slighly more expensive to go S939 because the chips are a little more and you need to go with a S939 board as well (MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum seems to be especially popular around here I have the S754 version and it oc's decently). Nvidia is releasing its nForce 4 chipset pretty soon and Via has something on the way so you may want to wait a month to see how these turn out. Both are supposed to support PciX eventually or at launch. If you already knew what S939 was and you were just wondering about the 3200+ and 3000+ being S939; I didn't mean to insult you with my over-achieving descriptions! anthony Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Wow, why so much Tt crap? That case is good, but some stuff there isnt too good The hardcano isnt nessecary The pipe101 is ok.. but there are others better http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-108-037&depa=0 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-108-038&depa=0 The UFO fans suck.. they are slim but loud and ineffective That PSU isnt that great, look at the Tisonic, which is identical to the Tt's but better, higher amp on each rail
