Renamed File

Ok, i have some files that i dont want anybody else to look at, so what ive been doing is using WinRar to rar them all into a single, compressed file, then i renamed the winrar file, for example...It was Config.rar then i renamed to to Config.dat

This would make it look like a system file and nobody that used my computer would think twice about looking @ it. Then when i wanted to use it, i would just rename it back to .rar and everything would b fine. Well one time i was messing with what extension to use, and i used .cnf and i didn't really think anything of it, until i tried renaming it back to .rar, and nothing happens, it just does what is shown in the attached pic...so how do i get my files back??? If you guys want to try this, just create a rar or zip file with a few text files or somethin, and rename that zip file something.cnf, and try to recover your files.....thanks ALOT in advance

ASUS FOR PRESIDENT!!!

thanks alot man ;)

check out my sig

i dunno about voting him pres for that :P. You can always open a file that's "supposed" to be open by a program regardless of the extension. I used to save all my word files with different extensions dependings on what they were for....sort of like a categorization without making tons of folders. Also you may not be able to change it back if you don't have the proper authorization. Go to folder options and make sure you have show extensions and show system files on.
