JeremyA Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) I am planning to buy an athlon64 soon, and am wondering which core, speed, etc. performs best and overclocks best. I can't afford the FX-53 (Who can?) so that isn't an option. I want a socket 939. What mobo should I get? I have heard the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is best, is this true? And, what RAM? I have been thinking of some OCZ PC4000 Gold Edition revision 2 dual channel. Sorry for all the questions, but I want to be sure to get something good, the vid card will be a 9600xt or a 9800pro, whichever i can afford, lol. Water cooling, too. Byron Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 939 3200's are worse then 754 3200's If you are wanting 939 socket, go with a 3500+ or higher. On 754 get a 3200+ or higher. Clawhammers are the cores you want to look for. but the Newcastles are also good cores.

JeremyA Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited) ok, I want a tv tuner, but for certain fetures, you need an ati card (Of course). Is a 9800pro good (I was considering that anyway, price is better and I am not a gamer, I do work with 3D graphics, but I don't require performance, hehe, a 9600xt would be fine, but a 9800pro would be better to keep up with the computer). And if i do that, i'll try to get one that I can flash to 9800XT bios I hope to have another machine on the side to fold 24/7, I haven't really started using it yet, my computer would light on fire, too hot! <_< Edited October 10, 2004 by JeremyA

FunkyMonkey Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 i was thining of getting the 3500+ as well but since the 3200+ came out i been in a delima bryon what makes you think the 3200+ 939 are worse than 754? like benches between te two? ClayMeow Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 i just got the 3500+ and the msi neo2 platinum about a week ago. I did a lot of research, and IMO it's the best option out there if you want 939....3800+ and FX-53 are just too much $ right now. Byron Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Yea, I cant remember where I saw it, but the 3200+ 939 is comparable to a 64 2800+ 745. They just dont bench well. I was surprised, but I think it is the dual channel controler that screws with its performance. If you want a 939 one, its best to get a true 939 chip.
