Earwig Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 In my BIOS there is an option called AGP OverVoltage control that allows me to add .01, .02, or .03 volts to the AGP slot to 'assist in overclocking'. My x800 runs at 472/445 right now. I can bump it up to 530/500 but it crashes quite a bit at that speed. Would increasing the AGP OverVoltage setting help with stability? I know I can frag my hardware bigtime when screwing with voltage, and I really know nothing about electricity. Any help or personal experience with this would be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Wayway Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 ask people from guru3d.com and they would also be able to help you. Yes added volts is going to make your new settings run more stable , but when you add more volts your adding more heat so proper cooling is required!!!!! good luck
snipermav Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 erm, what board do you have? Most boards (not all) say that AGP voltage can be adjusted, when in reality the card regulates the voltage for the card. Chances are raising the AGP voltage will increase the Northbridge voltage, which could increase stability to high FSB overclocks. If you want to increase voltage to the card, you'll more than likely need to flash the BIOS of the card or volt-mod it in some way. Earwig Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I have a Gigabyte board with an Nforce2 chipset. I'll check it when I get home to get the exact model, but it was a high-end board when I bought it. I have ordered some copper heatsinks for my BGA memory blocks and I'm looking into some other cooling options for the card. TimeMachine Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Umm i think you should, use powerstrip to raise it, its much more easier. PLus if you really mess up, all you neeed to do is undo also get the latest drivers.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Raising the agp voltage does not increase the overclockability of the video card. This is because the card itself has voltage regulation circuitry, and it will just compensate to keep the voltages at regular levels. To actually feed more voltage to the gpu/mem you have to voltmod the card, or flash with a voltmodded bios. (like flashing a 9800 pro to an xt, or a 5900 to a 5950) As was stated above, what raising the agp voltage DOES do, in the case of Intel 865/875 chipsets ONLY, is raise the chipset voltage to help out high fsb overclocks. For other chipsets, it doesn't do a thing.
