Fanatic Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Ok I have 2 Seagate Barrcuda 120gb HDD. Question is: 1. What is the best way to hook them up? 2. When I hook them up in straight IDE master/slave jumper settings, the slave does not show up. I have spent many a hours trying to make it work, but it refuses. Any ideas? Cable is hooked up in slot IDE1(I tried 2 and same thing) Disk managment does not show it either.

Fanatic Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Tried both of them. Even unplugged the one and tried the other as master. I'm wondering if it is a setting in the bios that I am not selecting. I even tried manual in the bios and entering the info. That didn't work either.
crash Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Make sure that both IDE channels are enabled in your bios. Watch for the drive's to show up in the post screen. Â Next thing to do is use something like partition magic to give the drive a file system. Windows won't show it in My Computer until it has a file system. Â I think the best way to set those drives up is to use one for your os and one for your proggies. You could also set them up as a RAID array and then partition the array into two seperate drives. I thin the first choice would be better.
Fanatic Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Is there something I can download for free that I can use to give it a file system?
TheSternMystic Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Are you POSITIVE 100% sure the cables are plugged in the right way?
Fanatic Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 HDD 1 and 2 are on IDE1. The 2nd HDD is plugged into the slave connection and 1 is plugged into master. So I would have to say yes. When I recived the HDD's I installed them. I did not format HDD2 with any kinda of file system. I just tried to use Seagates online disc wizard to format the second drive but it keeps telling me that it is not there. I even double checked the jumpers (master on 1st set of pins and no jumper on 2nd HDD for slave). Not sure what else Ican do besides unplug the master HDD and install windows on it. Which would give me 2 OS(not really wanting to do that).
