BloodySunday Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I would say go with a S939 3200+ because I think the reason the S939 3000+ didn't not perform as well as the S754 3000+ is because of the lower clock speed and the onboard dc memory controller just couldn't make up for the speed loss. And you if you get a 939 3200+ you can use a 10X multi and it should overclock pretty well(assuming your an overclocker). And I think its worth it in the long run to go S939. computerfreakxv Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 This is almost the exact same question that I have been dwelling on for the past week, and I have yet to come up with a conclusion
spathalogic Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I've been reading on these boards that most people believe the Newcastle chips run better than the Winchester chips [in general], though I could be wrong. Good luck with whatever you pick out in the end, though .
airman Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 i dissagree with bloodysunday the 90nm process is something new...and from all of the cpu benchmarks i've seen (not memory), the s939 3000+ gets beat by everything but the 3.2c. it tied the s754 2800+ in framerate tests in cinebench. i think it's a pitiful cpu. i would save up and get a normal 3500+ s939. computerfreakxv Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 (edited) But yeah, if you are planning on buying a Winchester processor I would definably go with the AMD 3200+ version.
