Fueler Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Well I tried to get to 3.0 GHz but just could'nt quite get there. I'm pretty sure that there is a voltage mod I could do that would help with my fsb problem (The higher I clock the CPU the lower I have to set the fsb otherwise it won't even post) I could use some help here because there is at least a dozen different mods I've seen for the nf7s MB and a million opinions on which one's actually help. I don't want to just go willynilly modding my MB without knowing exactly what it will do. If there is anybody out there with experience modding this MB---- Help!!!!!! Whitelightning Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Ahhh man that is sweet......almost 3ghz......that thing must fly....is it stable at that speed?
markiemrboo Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Your FSB problem... I had the same. Two double sided 512MB sticks? You need a modded CPC off BIOS for that
Fueler Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Your FSB problem... I had the same. Two double sided 512MB sticks? You need a modded CPC off BIOS for that As much as I'd like to think i'm gods gift to OCing the truth is I really don't know jack compared to most of you guys so I have a few questions. In your sig you show your cpu/mem ratio as 6:6 mine is set to auto does it make a difference? There is also a selection for 3:3 in the bios, how is it different from 6:6? You are correct in that I have two double sided 512MB sticks. Could you be a little more specific about the mod you are suggesting or possibly a link to a page describing the mod. As to the question "Is it stable?" the answer is I don't know. I was able to run several benchmarks (SiSandra, 3dmark 2001se, 3dmark 03, aquamark3, halo) with no problems and I also ran Prime95 just to see what my load temps would be (-24C) but I really have no intention of running this CPU at this speed all the time (I don't think 2.1v is a good thing for this cpu) so I turned Prime95 off after about an hour. I'm now running at a slightly less insane 1.93v 2.8GHz Prime95 stable for 24hours before I finally shut it off (-28C)
markiemrboo Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Hi dude. Sorry, that was an incredibly rushed post. I was at the end of a lab at Uni so had to run to the car 6:6, 3:3, 1:1... all the same, just people report 6:6 as being better (somehow) so I put it as that to start with. When I got my 512MB stick of BH-5, double sided, I discovered I could barely hit 200MHz FSB with the official BIOSes. Apparently the original nForce BIOSes ( is that even the right way to spell it? Viruses = Viri .. BIOSes = BIOSI? ) didn't have CPC on - command per clock, much like PAT supposedly - because none of the BIOS people knew about it. Needless to say, as soon as they found out it was there it got enabled because of the performance increase it yields. I don't know the exact details but the nForce II chipset chokes with CPC on and most double sided RAM .. so you need a CPC off BIOS (I can send you the one I am using if you like). It had good results for me, i'm at 231MHz perfectly stable now.. which is about 217MHz CPC on .. which is probably actually the max most NF7's do without mods I think? Improvement anyway! I couldn't get 217MHz stable with CPC on.. If you can run Prime95 for 24 hours I would consider it stable. I have an insane amount of modded NF7-S Rev2 bioses you're welcome to try out. Just let me know. EDIT: By the way, I aint like guarantee'ing a CPC off BIOS will help. It just sounds incredibly similar to the problems I was having with my double sided RAM! I'm pretty sure it'll help.
Fueler Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Sorry I interrupted you during class. After reading your last post I remembered that I'd seen this disable CPC thing before. (My mind must be going, when I was in college we spent most of our time protesting) It was in one of the Xtreme Systems forums. At the time I just ignored it because I could'nt find a setting in bios to disable it. Anyway I went back and found the post which led me to the TicTac Tech page. There is a load of bios there with CPC both enabled or disabled. Have you tried any of these? Or can anybody shed some light on these bios mods. markiemrboo Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I'm using... Merlin... 3.0.0 CPC Off. Like I said, i'll send it to you if you like works good! There is no option to disable/enable this feature, which is why there's always a CPC off and CPC on version of the modded BIOSes I don't know the link to where I got all the BIOSes from though since I formatted recently. Part of the reason I saved a tonne of them from whatever site I got them from, is that it was rather hard to find EDIT: Oh and you didn't interrupt my class thingy I was browsing the forums because I was bored. Oops! Picture: I only have version 3.0.0 Merlin, lots of different versions. I'm using "ABIT NF7-S ver. 3.0.00 Fire Bpl 3.19 26.08.04 by -=Merlin=-.rar"
Fueler Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Send it to me .....I'll give it a try. One more question, I installed Abit's Flash Menu v1.21 will this work to install the bios or do I need to do it the hard way and download the DOS flash utility? Thanks for the help. markiemrboo Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I just used the Flash Menu thing! And I'm using 3.19C not 3.19 The C means CPC Off. Can't send files in PM's so i'll attach it here as uh.. a txt file or something and you'll have to rename it to .rar EDIT: and i'm using v1.35 Flash Menu, for what it's worth. Anything should work really though! Hmm, it didn't upload right or something? *tries shortening the name* shortening the name worked! Let me know how you get on with it. It's got the L12 mod built in, but by the 15x multiplier I guess you've jammed wire in your socket and probably done the L12 mod with a bit of wire while you were at it? Fueler Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 You're right, could'nt do anything with the first file but I was able to Google the file name and found it that way. By the way your second file worked but I already had it. I'll give it a try tonight and let you know how it works. Thanks again for the help. markiemrboo Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Good plan, didn't think of that one lol Can I have a multi-coloured, giant, fluffy, talking bunny if it lets you get over 200MHz FSB stable? Good luck man.
Fueler Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I installed the bios droped the multiplier back down to 12 and started agin from scratch. Got to 12x228 p95 stable, it would post and bootup all the way into the 240's(did'nt try any higher). The reason I mention this is because with the old bios it would'nt even post at 12x215. I'm going to bump the multi to 12.5 today and see how high the fsb will go. You know I'm going to look dang silly walking out of the mall with a giant fuzzy multicoloured talking bunny. A you sure you won't settle for a sixpac?
