Freeder Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I have a DFI Lanparty Pro875-b, 3.0 northwood, PQI Turbo 3200, Thermalright XP-90(lapped), Antec 550 w. The most I can up the fsb is to 1000 fsb @ 1.700 vcore, ram is doing 2.5-3-3-8 @ 2.8 volts. If i push the vcore over 1.7000 to even 1.7250 & doing 3.82 ghz, my computer freezes while doing Prime95 after 25 minutes. I know for certain that it isnt the ram holding it back because it'll run Memtest86 for over 3 hours without error. And also temperature also isnt a problem because i'm getting 50/51c while doing 3.75 ghz Is this the limit? I heard from a member that this certain 3.0c that i have can hit 4.0 ghz on air. Or maybe this chip is at fault? It can't handle vcore over 1.7000?
Bionix Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 its just the luck of the draw. You still have yourself a nice chip, 3.75 is nice.
Freeder Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 So are you saying that if I return this chip and get another exact same with the same serial number, it can overclock better?
GTSticky Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 3.75 is good for air-cooling. Try upping the NB voltage and check the NB temp?
Raptor Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Yes it is luck of the draw sometitmes you get a really nice chip oc's like crazy. other times you can get a chip that oc's a lil just luck of the draw!
snipermav Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 What stepping is your 3.0C? I got the SL6WK, which supposedly hits 4.0 stable, but again, it's luck of the draw. Mine will only run benches at 250, not completely stable. Consider yourself lucky, because I wish I could hit 250. I run 100% stable at 3.55, and run 3.6 most of the time. Note: Running 1.7 vcore is pretty close to the danger point there. I wouldn't go any farther with that vcore. And plus, if you return that chip, you could get something that doesn't overclock as well as the one you have now. Again, all luck of the draw. Freeder Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Yeah, Snipermav, I got the SL6WK one also, but you can't get to 1000 fsb? On one hand, I do feel a little lucky, but on the other hand I WANT 4 ghz!
GTSticky Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 GHz ain't all it's cracked up to be. My 2.4c @267 (3.2xGHz) holds its own against my 2.8e @250 (3.5xGHz) It's all about the bus on Intel. You might do better with a 2.6 or 2.8 if you want more speed on air.
Freeder Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Let me run this senario with you guys, what if went back and keeping got another 3.0c SL6WK (since they have a 15 day return policy) and overclock that. Should I then go straight for 1000 fsb right away to see if it match the one that I have now, then towards 4 ghz? Or should I ease into it to allow the chip to "loosen" up for 4 ghz? And what would the chances for me to find that great oc'er chip?
snipermav Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Yeah, burning in components is nothing but a myth. It's not going to matter one bit whether you increase in increments or just go for it all at once. I'd say your chances on finding the great OCer chip are somewhere around 20-25%. Nuclear on these forums went through 3 or 4 SL6WKs I believe before he found one that went to 4.0 (Nuc, if this is wrong, feel free to correct me). fanATIc on the other hand went the the K and got one right away that hit 3.9. Freeder Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 So it can't be something i'm doing wrong with my bios setting that is limiting me right? Or is it..... But with what you are saying Snipermav, gives me hope on finding one since my local store has maybe 10 of those chips left.
