Xavirious_ Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 (edited) Right now I have a Mobile Athlon XP 2400+ in my laptop and it is running on 1.45v. I was thinking of upgrading to a better CPU because it will be so much cheaper than buying a new laptop. The options are a 2600+ or a 3000+. The problem is that the 3000+ plus runs on 1.65v. Do you think it will run.? Currently I am looking into the motherboard to see if it can push that much power, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought. Happy OCing and as always..... markiemrboo Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 what's wrong with the CPU that you currently have in there? I imagine going from 1.45v to 1.65v, even if you have to mod your laptop board somehow, will decrease battery life. Wouldn't be worth it if you ask me. EDIT: forgot to say... if I was going to switch the CPU for whatever reason then I would go with the 2600+ for the reason above
DECwakeboarder Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Laptop CPU's are soldered to the mainboard if Im not mistaken, that means for you to get the current one off you would have to desolder 462 pins then resolder another 462 pins without letting any of them touch each other, I don't think that you would have too much fun soldering 924 pins, but if you, I've got a laptop I'll be happy to send to you if you want to replace the CPU in it for me! markiemrboo Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Not all are. Pretty sure mobile athlons aren't, as you can buy those and stick them in your desktop computers (as lots of people, including me, have) I have an old broken laptop which had a Intel Pentium II 333 processor in it, that was removable. My current laptop processor is soldered on to the board though.
suchuwato Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 look at how fat your laptop is (silly) upping the voltage won't decrease battery that much will it?
markiemrboo Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 lol fat? mine aint that fat! 20mm in height maybe? I would have thought so, dunno.. "AMD AMD ATHLON XP MOBILE 3000+ 72W" from google, and the 2600+ is 47W ... must draw lots more power?
