The_WRATH Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 i hear a lot about ln2 and stuff like that....but thats too hardcore for me. im a copper kind of guy but lately, COPPER DONT CUT IT! so i switched to a thermaltake aquarius 2. and right now im using the koolance pre-mixed distilled water with coolant. and when i ran the syste its lowered to 29.5c, that was the lowest. sooo, i was wondering if coolant made a big difference, i might just go ahead and see how pure coolant will work with the system, suggestions anyone? markiemrboo Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I think you probably want as much water as you can get since it's good at transfering heat, but we have to add antifreeze or whatever to stop nasties... then loose a little bit of ......................... cooling performance I guess. I think that's why people like to add coolant in.
Newport Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 Water Wetter is a good option instead of coolant...
Shadowfactor Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 regular tap water cools better than Disstilled watter , @least that what ive heard
Eva_Unit_0 Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 Do NOT use pure coolant...the coolant itself does not do anything to cool your components. Water is what actually cools it (water has an incredibly high specific heat). Come on now, you guys took basic high school chemistry...adding coolant to the water makes it cool better because when you add a solute to a solvent you lower the vapor pressure and thus raise the boiling point/lower the freezing point. Pure coolant would not cool it at all.
MindDrive Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 first off- the aquariusII cooler is a poor cooler i think - ive used it and personaly under heavy loads the temps rose slightly higher than when using a standard aluminum heasink and 2300rmp 80mm fan as for tap water being "better" its not - algea and other living things in tap water will eventually grow into "SLIME" inside your cooling system lowering its effectiveness in the whole cooling process as for running "PURE" coolant - like antifeeze, its best mixed with distilled water - the creators of the coolant designed it that way for a reason - i suggest using it like the manufacturer states ive used antifreeze in my systems before and have found that it made very little differance in actual temperature increase/decrease but it did prevent the "goop" from forming and its held down corrosion/calcium build up \ some of my systems: http://www.overclockersclub.com/gallery/?act=case&id=696 *prior to the aquariusII : http://www.overclockersclub.com/gallery/?act=case&id=576 *home built mod AFTER the aquariusII because it didnt "CUT IT" http://www.overclockersclub.com/gallery/?act=case&id=
worker Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Coolant also stops agle and other things from growing in the pipes.
E Fudd Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 One other factor is the coolant adds to the viscosity and slows the volumn of water (harder for the pump). Water Cools better - BUT - rust & gunk - splt the difference 1 to 3h2o if your getting it from Auto Zone
General Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 screw coolant.. add 1/4 a cup of windex and ur set Can you say 25*C load temps mind u it came close to snowing last night so that could be a factor
worker Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I think a mixture of the water and coolant is the best. You add a small amount of coolant and moslty water.
E Fudd Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Has anyone seen any info on what might be too Cold for a CPU when over clocking? Say like the 64 chip types. <_<
Nuclear Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Has anyone seen any info on what might be too Cold for a CPU when over clocking?Say like the 64 chip types. <_< There is no such thing as too cold for a chip I have chips that ran under PS systems for months at -65C and below...and they were fine. Guys that run DI and LN2 chill theirs to -150C / -190C, and they run fine the next day. Chips will operate in very low temperatures, it is often the board that fails under really low temps. The caps and circuitry often freeze and pop, which lead to system failure.
