you might want to try looking at pricewatch.com. I like to click on different categories and get listings of all of the different parts available. It might give you a starting place on your price ranges for each of the parts (cpu, ram, mb, etc.)

i got one brewing in my mind but do you have any parts you can rip out the one your useing now like harddrive cdrom ect, ect

Yeah I could rip stuff off this comp. It has a weak 26 GB HDD and a 48x Max Speed Cd-Rom. Its an Older (2000?) Hp Pavilion with a Intel celeron 667mhz processor  . And a crappy 64 mb SDRAM. <_< I dont think I could use any of this except maybe the HDD and the CD rom....idk

all that is gonna cost somewhere around 780 bucks before tax from tigerdirect.com - use the same parts - but see if you can find them cheaper somewhere else for price comparison === ive used all those parts and they are excellent "budget" componnents and most of those parts i am still using except the ram but the gigabyte mobo is excellent, the 9500XT is a great card for fps i think - you might want to shop arround u might be able to find a 5950 or an ati 9800 for about the same price

yea, here's my "what i would build today at newegg.com with 800 bucks" list:

GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS" NVIDIA nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754 CPU $76

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Retail Processor $165

(2) Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 $152

(2) Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model HDS722580VLSA80, OEM

$128

PowerColor ATI Radeon 9800PRO Video Card 128MB DDR, 256-bit, 8X AGP, Model "R98-PC3G" $197

ASUS Black 52X QuieTrack Technology CD-ROM Drive, Model CD-S520 Black QuieTrack $16

Antec Black ATX Mini Tower PC Case with 350W Power Supply, Model "SLK1650B" $75

Actually, this totals $809 but, you could scale this system back a little and still have a good gamer.

okay, show us the cheaper one.

the hitachi is faster and cheaper than the WD.

There isnt much info about the harddrive I listed, at newegg's web site. But its a '7K250' series from Hitachi, which is currently considered to be the best 7200rpm sata drive on the market.

If you go with AMD deffinitely get a S939 3000+ or 3200+ in that price range. You might look at a 9800 pro. If you are playing Everquest it should be plenty. Nvidia and Ati both have nice cards in your price range on the way (6600 and x700) but they aren't out in agp yet.

S754 proc with a S939 board?

Oh yeah, for ram, try to get a 1 gb dual channel kit if you get a S939. Antec makes some decent cases with decent psu's for very little money. For a mb I think you should look at MSI K8N Neo Platinums and the Gigabyte nforce 3's (can't remember specific names). If the DFI Lanparty UT returns before you buy your parts, it seems to be tied for best with the Neo Platinums.
