confuzzedintelguy Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 ok well as days go by i end up finding my budget for my new rig gitting tighter and tighter so i have come to you guys and gals to ask what i should do im trying to decide on a AMD cpu and these are my choices AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 3200+ 512k cache 2.2ghz or a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 512k cache Socket 939 90nm 1.8 ghz they are in the same price range and i need to know what you think would overclock and perform better in the long run. all input apreciated
markiemrboo Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 I didn't know there was a 3000+ Socket 939! Could you show? I was looking how much it would cost me to go Socket 939 Athlon 64... the 3500+ is rather expensive still. I'd go Socket 939.... Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm S939 I'd go with Socket 939 over Socket 754, even with a lower clock speed.

Kamikaze_Badger Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Socket 969 will do better. More pins = more transfer . Plus, more transfer = faster data movement to those ubar 1337 64 bit registers.
FollowerCTO Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 yes, but the 939 mobos are more expensive... I've been looking into building a new comp as well... Leviticus will be Athlon64, I just wish it didn't cost so much
agentorange Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 The Neo platinum vs. the Neo2 platinum is something like a ten dollar difference. Not a very big price difference. I am kind of kicking myself along with Lego but cheer up Lego the S754 3700+ will probably drop it's price faster!
