pi-dickens_project Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Im looking to get a new heatsink for my CPU, hoing to achieve better clock speeds. Right now i am looking at either a Thermalright "XP-120" or "Sp-94." has anyone had experience with either one? the SP is all copper but i read somewhere that the XP (copper base) is pretty dangm good. any input? Right noew I am using a Gigabyte 3D rocket cooler, it keeps my temp at about 41*C OCd @ 3.4. Would I even get much of a temp difference? pi-dickens_project Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Yeah, thats what I figured right off... yet the XP is more expensive and I cant really figure that out. Neither come with a fan... sooooo? hmm

Hyper Threaded Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 (edited) Would you consider a Swiftech MCX478-V? They are not all copper, but the base is a huge slab of copper with aluminium pins pressed in at varying angles. It turns out to look like a work of art, and it cools extremely well. I have a Switfy and get as low as 27c idle/37c load with it, that's with just decent airflow in my case. I am not overclocked at the moment. Vampire Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 With the XP120 you should be able to use a quieter fan (120mm) for the same results. The SP-94 is still a great heatsink though.
pi-dickens_project Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 what cooling are you running?
anthony Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 the Sp-94 is amazing. at 69F, I get idle temps of 29c, and load of 37c w/ artic silver 3 the xp 120 would be a hassil to use, due to its immense size, capacitor bending is nessesary to allow it to fit. try the xp 90, its like the xp 120.. but different, it uses 92mm
airman Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 the xp 120 would be a hassil to use, due to its immense size, capacitor bending is nessesary to allow it to fit. in only a few cases. it fits about 75% of the motherboards, and i think thermalright is coming out with a new version of the xp-120 (not the xp-90) that will fit more boards. i have the xp-120 on my p4, and i get temps of 29c/40c. but i have kind of bad airflow in my case...only 3 fans (2 intake 1 exhaust). i'm using as5 as well.
