Error C:\windows\minidump

Recommended Posts

Everytime I boot up I get the error message that "windows has recovered from a serious error" and the details are:

C:\windows\minidump\mini092504-06.dmp

C:\docume~1\al\locals~1\temp.wer6.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

When I click "Don't send" to Microsoft the message goes away, but comes back the next time I boot up.

What does all this mean and how do I correct it?

There is a Microsoft patch that may help you.

Also found a Microsoft article that says:

SYMPTOMS

If Windows XP restarts because of a serious error, the Windows Error Reporting tool prompts you to report the problem to Microsoft for troubleshooting purposes. Windows may prompt you to report this information every time that you restart the computer, even if no error occurred during the previous session. After this problem begins to occur, you are prompted to send the information after every restart, even if you do not send the information.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because after a Minidump file is written, the paging file continues to have a flag set that indicates that a Minidump file must be written.

and it has a download to fix the problem.

Let us know if this solves your problem.

Ok - it works now!!! However, I think it was dust vs a patch issue. I downloaded the patch/update first - which did nothing and then in frustration took the cover off and gave it a good cleaning inside. Turned it back on and either the patch/update was slightly time - delayed or the dust was my issue - whichever, it works great now!!!

Thanks for all you help.
