Cinder Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Arcording to PC Authority Magazine intel has come up with a 64 bit Xeon! code name: Nocona. WOW i can't wait to get on of these!!! Because its a prescott it has a 1MB L2 Cache but runs rather hot Whats you thoughts on another 64-Bit beast?
Shadowfactor Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 already out i think and BOO INTEL
d3bruts1d Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 I think this is why there is a processor forum. Xeon isn't really something you'll see many end users running.
oralpain Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Yeah it's out and It is quite a fast chip, but overall it's not much faster than the opterons and it cost several times as much. I think the fastest model was something like $1,600.
BloodySunday Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 For games and what not a desktop processor will work just as good if not better for much less.
the DrewiD Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 My bros got a duel 2.8 xeon,,,,,it rocks
talvai Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Yes Intel does have a 64 bit processor. But please just face it. Intel suks and AMD is the best. If you want a cheap good 64 bit processor get the Athlon 64 3000+
bigred Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 hold on guys, before you go bashing this chip you should "try" one! I have used these things. and I have to say a pair of 3.6ghz em64t xeons CRUSHES my wife's dual 2.66ghz xeon, and holds it's own with my quad 3.2gzh xeon rig. now a dual opteron 250 dual core is supposed to be even faster... but I'll let you know how true that is when my chips get here (2 xeons and 2 opterons) either tomorrow or monday. IoDd64 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 (edited) i think intels next line of cpus will be out around christmas time to march of next year.. at speeds of 3.6 (intro-end) 3.8 (middle-end) 4.0-4.2 (high-end) all with 1 mb lvl 2 cache, and i think the 4.0-4.2 will have 2MB lvl 2 cache dont take my word as law.. but i believe Falcon NW got a 3.8ghz from intel, to sell in there exotix machine (top of there line machine).. which they overclocked to 4.2 with w/c so i think those figures are atleast the bare minimum that intel will ship.. prolly faster Edited September 30, 2004 by IoDd64
bigred Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 the new P4'F' as it's being called is 90% prescott 10% athlon 64 if you really stop and look at it. they added the 64 bit extensions to it. 3.2 is the intro speed due out before christmas. and no 2mb l2 is on the road map anytime soon. at 3.73 they'll move it to the supposed 1066 frontside bus (divide by 4 for the real fsb as usual) and call it the new Extreme... which means they'll be nothing more than hand picked cores capable of higher bus speeds... big f'n deal there, just oc a regular chip. the Xeon however already shipped, but is not ready with the 2mb L2 yet. plans for 2 and 4 mb cache em64t xeons are in the works already
worker Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Wonder if people are going to start changing the cpu brand because intel is coming out with there 64 bit processors.
cchalogamer Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I think it's great that intel is lookign 64 bit, but really can they come back when teh A64 already has a hold on the high end market? high end not the extreme lol, you crazy pll out there with quad processor rigs (thats one for captain overkill himself ) wont really see it that way but look at all the 64 chips that have shown up here in OCC AMD surelly has a jump on the market. And let us not forget, an AMD 64 3000+ can be had for jsut $164 at newegg. where as on the intel side....he current 3.0e prescott is $179. Lets see ultra speed for less or a PC that doubles as a toaster oven to more money........Looks like ill be going AMD as i get rid of these cheap systems that i can afford at the moment.
