dan2315 Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Well the boss (my fiance) thinks 1,000 is too much for a new computer. Which makes sense since we have a baby on the way. I am looking to see if you guys can help me build a cheaper computer. She thinks $800 is a little more sensible. With this computer I would like to do e-mail and a lot of multitasking with office programs and downloadign music. Also do you guys think DVD Burners are worth it nowadays. This is what I had come up with on my own. Well thanks in advance guys. LobbDogg Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Everything seems ok. However why not cut out the LCD and get a good CRT? Should be able to cut some costs that way. And in regards to your DVD burner question. I do think they are worth it, however you need to picture yourself using it to see if it would be worthwhile. I use mine all the time, but this is me. Also you didn't mention, but is there going to be any gaming at all, even if it is just light gaming?
Bionix Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 I'm with lobbdogg.... If you get a CRT instead you could put that saved money into a better graphics card or some more ram.
dan2315 Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Well what CRT's do you recommend? Also which graphics card and RAM would you recommend for my dollar?

Frankie_CWRU Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 What are you using the computer for? Do you really need windows, cause Linux is free.
dan2315 Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 OK Well I will probably be playing a couple games. I would like to try that FarCry game it looks pretty cool. Well my budget is about $100 for a video card. I also went with a 19" CRT and bought some corsair valueSelect PC-3200 2X512 RAM. Thanks for the suggestions. BloodySunday Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 (edited) Any video card that will play Far Cry well will cost at least $200. Also I would try to squeez some pennies and get this. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ductCode=241141 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...uctCode=80698-R Also a SATA drive would probaly be worth wild for about the same price. TimeMachine Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 why dont you get a 5900 series on ebay or a 5700, they are pretty neat cards, but for gaming maybe 9600 . also i likethe idea of the crt, LCDs came out not for long. And do you really need a dvd ?>> i
