Well I've got an assignment for my American Studies class where I'm supposed to interview five people on various political topics, and thought I could probably get the widest range of views here. I'll probably take the first five people who respond adequately to this thread. Try to keep your answers short and to the point if possible. Here are the questions:

A. Are you more concered about foreign or domestic issues? Which in particular?

B. Why do you think President Bush OR Senator Kerry has a better position on:

-The environment?

-Iraq?

-Fighting terror?

-The economy?

C. Which of the above issues will most strongly influence your vote?

Thanks guys. :)

OK,

A. Are you more concered about foreign or domestic issues? Which in particular?

Foreign issues, the War on Terror must take priority just as WWII took priority then, if we focus on domestic issues at the expense of the war the war will wind up bieng fought in our neighbourhoods and grocery stores. IF that happens welfare will be completely pointless for those who live in former cities that are now radioactive holes.

B. Why do you think President Bush OR Senator Kerry has a better position on:

-The environment?

Bush, he has funded research for alternative fuels more than any other president, also drilling in ANWAR and furthur becoming self-sufficient with regards to energy production will help the US become stronger when dealing with foreign powers.

-Iraq?

Bush, His stance has been clear the ENTIRE time, Kerry has finally put up his 4 points of what he would do different that if you read it, amounts to doing EXACTLY what Bush is doing now. Also Kerry's stance on Iraq changes depending on the latest poll numbers, and if someone coughed loudly during his speech. No one knows what Kerry's actual stance on Iraq is, not even himself, but check back tomorrow on the news and he will tell you his stance of the day.

-Fighting terror?

Again, absolutely Bush, He is unapolegetic for our right to defend our country, and will use our military without hesitation to root out and DESTROY the terrorists where they live and breed, as opposed to counting on the UN to do anything usefull as the terrorists furthur organise and launch coordinated attacks on the US itself. Kerry has indicated that he would fight the War on Terror not as a war, but as a law enforcement issue saying such lines as "Punish them to the fullest extent of the law" So I guess the terrorists will be read their MIRANDA rights and will live in fear of being dragged into court. (Oh please!)

-The economy?

Bush, his tax cuts have saved the economy by allowing people to keep more of their money and use it to reinvest more into our economy, JFK did it in the 60's, and Reagan forced it on the screaming congress in the 80's with similar results to what we are seeing today. The economic climate is different as we are at War currently and the global job market is also having an effect, but the econamy would be much worse off if we were being taxed at the same rate we were before Bush came into office.

C. Which of the above issues will most strongly influence your vote?

Fighting Terror and foreign policy. Bush will do whatever is necessary to defend and protect the US, and could not care less what France or the UN thinks. While Kerry is more concerned with being loved by these groups as opposed to making the hard decisions.

A. I am more concerned with foreign issues. I feel that self defense is job #1. In the wake of the September 11th attacks, no longer can we sleep comfortably in our homes, while our enemies plan to attacks against our people.

B. President Bush has a better position for all of the above:

-Environment

President Bush seeks many plans to strengthen the environment within his 2nd term. Some of those include Clear Skies Initiative, Clean Air Interstate Rule, Mercury Rule, Farm Bill Conservation Programs, Initiate Environmentally Safe Exploration, Ensure Greater Electricity Reliability, Encourage Use of Efficient Technologies, Promote Conservation and Support Energy Technologies.

These policies not only will reduce environmental waste, but will also reduce or dependency on foreign oil.

-Iraq

President Bush has the strongest resolve for the War on Terrorism and Iraq. In fact if you look at Senator Kerry

A. Are you more concered about foreign or domestic issues? Which in particular? Foriegn as I believe that, currently the war on terror and the war in Iraq greatly influence most of our domestic issues at this time.

B. Why do you think President Bush OR Senator Kerry has a better position on: Senator Kerry 3, Pres. Bush 1.

The environment? I'll give the nod to Pres. Bush here as I believe we have let enviromental extremists to much control over this area of america. At somepoint you have to draw the line.

Iraq? Senator Kerry, He has recently oulined a plan that has a resolution to iraq with in 4 years. Pres. Bush has no clear plan and never really has beyond removing Saddam. When the U.S. decided to go to war with Iraq the war was already one and we should of had a plan in place to establish a new government and bring stability to Iraq. Instead it has been performed on the fly and done very poorly. Also it was Osama Bin Laden that was reponsible for 9/11 not Iraq. And lastly in reports commisioned by the current president there has been no link established between Iraq and Al-queda or uncovered any evidence of Iraq having WMD.

Fighting terror? Senator Kerry, becuase he believes as I do that the war on terror is a global war not just the U.S. against terror and I do not believe that invlolving the U.N. and other nations to help absorb military and monitary expenses of this war is a bad thing.

The economy? Senator Kerry, The presidents tax cuts have helped the top 1%, while burdening the middle class. Also he has roughly added 4 trillion to the national deficit and will continue to add to it. Last reports I read estimated his economic policy's could add up to 600 Billion a year to the national debt. At some point we need to balance the budget. With a combination of reduced spending and yes higher tax's. Also I do not believe in trickle down economics, it did not work under Reagen and Bush Sr. and will not work now.

C. Which of the above issues will most strongly influence your vote? Iraq and the economy

You asked for an educated reason why,not just "I DON'T LIKE BUSH", these are mine and only mine so please don't flame me.

Just three points that are incorrect by your statements that I want to point out. Not trying to "flame you", you just haven't read the 9/11 commission report:

Also it was Osama Bin Laden that was reponsible for 9/11 not Iraq.
No one ever said Iraq was responsible for 9/11.
And lastly in reports commisioned by the current president there has been no link established between Iraq and Al-queda or uncovered any evidence of Iraq having WMD.
Incorrect, their was a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda:

http://www.9-11commission.gov/hearings/hea...tatement_15.pdf

Bin Laden also explored possible cooperation with Iraq during his time in Sudan, despite his opposition to Hussein's secular regime. Bin Laden had in fact at one time sponsored anti-Saddam Islamists in Iraqi Kurdistan. The Sudanese, to protect their own ties with Iraq, reportedly persuaded Bin Laden to cease this support and arranged for contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda. A senior Iraqi intelligence officer reportedly made three visits to Sudan, finally meeting Bin Laden in 1994. Bin Laden is said to have requested space to establish training camps, as well as assistance in procuring weapons, but Iraq apparently never responded. There have been reports that contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda also occurred after Bin Laden returned to Afghanistan, but they do not appear to have resulted in a collaborative relationship. Two senior Bin Laden associates have adamantly denied that any ties existed between al Qaeda and Iraq. We have no credible evidence that Iraq and al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States.

Also I do not believe in trickle down economics, it did not work under Reagen and Bush Sr. and will not work now.
Bush never worked on "trickle down economics" under his presidency, he actually raised taxes. As far as Reagan, you need to brush up on you Economics, it is a FACT that he doubled Tax Revenues, and made the stock market what it is today.

Well Lando,

I appreciate your response on this, I also appreciate the fact that you post was not filled with "Bush is teh suck!!" Some of it was there, but not enough to gag on.

The tax cuts helped everyone who pays taxes, including me, and I am WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY below that top 1%. Avoid platitudes or talking points, they have been beaten to death on the nightly news and DBC ads.

As I said, I will not flame.

Thanks for the response.
