exeter_acres Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Via is another processor.... they would like to think that they are a competitor to AMD and Intel...but it is much smaller....
Duke Atreides Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Something for a smallish comp, or gaming console maybe?
Capslock118 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 It may not make it out in the real world, but it will give the bigger chip manufactures ideas to improve on i bet
godmode117 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 they use those in "hip" computers or something i read, they also use it super rugged micro pcs. google it.
bigred Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 mostly used in MICRO PC's. they use very little power and thus produce very little heat. however they are slow next to the big bad AMD and Intel chips.

Newport Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 How well do they overclock / fold? If they fold well, one could buy like 20 of those chips and run like a mofo hehe.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Yeah, like bigred said they're really slow (even against equally clocked amd/intel chips), but they can be passively cooled and draw very little power. If you want to see how slow they are, there are some of them listed in Sandra that you can compare your processor to in the cpu tests. slugbug3311 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I think they are mainly used in like handheld computers, like those fancy palm pilot things
Lord_Pistachio Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Yeah they're supposed to be low power/low heat. VIA makes those really little motherboards too that have an X86 CPU built in. Those are designed to be passiely cooled and go in like a hard drive video recorder or a router or something in a small case.
