Cyberfury Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 So my 9800XT runs on Overdrive all the time at 418 core and whatever the stock memory speed is. I got ATITool and tried overclocking, but even if I overclock like ONE megahert, I see artifacts and stuff, which is weird I think, as the card isn't heating up anymore than normal when it's just BARELY overclocked like that. When I check the card's temp with the built-in sensor, it says 66-67C under load, which is well within acceptable limits for the 9800XT (overdrive shuts down well over 70C). Regardless, even if I switch to the ATI Silencer 3 or whatever the bloomin' thing is actually called, will I be able to overclock my video card at all, or does it sound like I am stuck with stock speeds? Eva_Unit_0 Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Increased cooling would help out a bit, but the 9800xt is pretty much the end of the line for that architecture. R360 is a .15 micron chip, and 418mhz is one heck of an achievement for ATI to get with such a large process. Only problem is that they run insanely hot as a result. Increasing cooling would increase your headroom by a bit, but in the end the architecture is going to limit you.
Nerm Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 I would think that you should be able to get that card higher. My 9800 Pro(r360) with the XT drivers does 430/360 on stock cooling.
