Oc'ing My Videocard

Hey ok i have a nvidia ge force mx 440 and i get some games saying that i can barley play them cus of the videocard so i want to over clock it. the core clock is 250mhz at default and it can go to 500mhz the memory clock is ser at 332mhz by default and it can go to 800mhz so what shuld i clock them to without blowing up my videocard cus i have no money so i would be craped. so i would like some oppinions on what to oveclock it to. thx slappy

If you would rather overclock the card you have rather than buying another, newer card, first try a 10% overclock. That would mean a core of 275 and 365 for the memory. If all is stable, keep bumping it up slowly, no more than 5Mhz at a time until you start to see artifacts in games or in 3DMark, etc., then back off 5 from that setting.

 

Don't expect too much though, because that card is fairly dated now... Oh, and you really only need to OC the 3D side of your video. You can leave 2D set to defaults that way your card is only pushed hard when you are gaming.

There are no separate 2d and 3d clocks on that card. NVIDIA didn't start that till the latter FX cards.

 

To hell with a 10% OC try 25% if it lock up restart and try 20%. No point in playing it safe with a card thats worth about 20 cents.

I stand corrected on the 2D/3D issue, however, if this is the only card he has, and he doesn't have the money for a new one, I would argue that caution is advised. He may reach a 25% overclock, but it's better to start out slow than jump right up to 25% OC...
