Cyberpunk_2027 Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I'm thinking of putting together some of the bits i've got laying around here and was wondering how good they would be for F@H dedicated machines (ie: os win 2000pro all sp's installed and minimum drivers and software and F@H client only.) The 3 machines I want to use are : PC 1 = PIII 1Ghz - 30gig hdd - 256mb ram - 32mb grfx PC 2 = Duron 850Mhz - 8gig hdd - 128mb ram - 32mb grfx PC 3 = Duron 1.2Ghz - 20gig hdd - 256mb ram - 32mb grfx I will be running them off of 1 monitor through a switch box no keyboard and a mouse.. Just wondering are they up to it??? Thanx in advance pplz
cchalogamer Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 My duron 1.3 dose pretty good (performanc rating of 1000+) so i woudl say that ull be ok trying to fold with ur 1.2 and the 1ghz should do good aswell, when u get under 1ghz it just seems to take awhileto get anythign done...mainly bc it dose, but ull be happy anyway as u watch your rank number slowly climb (well actually drop )in the ranks. Whitelightning Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I have an intel 1.0ghz machine that folds 24/7....the larger tinkers take awhile but most of the wu's it flys through...
CheeseMan42 Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 get them folding! every little bit does help. i think the minimum is a 500mhz celeron so those should be fine.

Stachman31 Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 I am running 3-- PIII's 600mhz. Each one can do a tinker in 6 days(just got one today, so still fresh in my mind). So your 1.0 should do better than that, maybe 5 or even 4 days. That is great to have a switch box, I use a couple of Belkin KVM switchs that were $20 each at Microcenter(no rebates). Nemo Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 I have a PIII 600 that's working on a 234-pt Gromac right now. It should finish up tomorrow morning - after 10-days of dedicated folding 24x7!
Pureghetto Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 Just a question here, but how do you survive with only 256/128 megs of ram? I remember when I used to have 512 on my P3 and it was still a hassle to do anything. Granted F@H isn't really resource intensive, but sheesh The slowest folding machine I own is a Celeron 466. I think it delivers one WU per month xD
