Some_Guy_ Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I swapped the green LED in my DVD-ROM drive for a blue one. I have no idea what the forward voltage/mA are and I have no way to measure them with the drive turned on... I can't get probes in there with the drive powered up. I just thought I would try it and see how it looks. It's blindingly bright. I need to put a resistor in there to lower the current, but not knowing what I already have for vf/mA, I don't know what to stick in there first. I guess what I'm asking is, has anybody else done something similar? I'm thinking I should start at about 100 ohms and see what happens. jammin Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Yeah, I would just experiment a bit. It's not like you can do much wrong by just changing the resistor value. Maybe start a bit higher than 100 ohms? Just thought it would be easier to dim it down quite alot first and work your way back up. Nemo Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 hardnrg posted this LED Calculator link a while back. See if that helps.
cchalogamer Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 while a calc WOULD help he would have to have the info on his LED lol
Some_Guy_ Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I went with Jammin's suggestion and tried a higher value resistor. I plopped in a 220 ohm and the results are satisfactory. I don't really feel like pulling it apart again for a higher resistor, it's a bit of a pain to do.
