Pjordan757 Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 I am building a gaming rig. Would ATA133 show that much diffrence in gaming than using a SATA?
Dasterdly Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 No, it wouldn't. 2 SATA drives in RAID 0 would would give you that performance gain though.
Whitelightning Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 You mightl see a small increase in performance...If you ran 2 identical drives on sata and in raid 0 you would see a nice increase in performance. I perfer sata over ata...just seems to run alittle faster in my opinion.
agentorange Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Unless you are looking at a significant price difference you may as well go with the sata. Its higher transfer rate might not be apparent right now but later on you can buy another one and make a raid 0 array. The cables are also smaller and easier to deal with inside your case. ClayMeow Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 and you could always go with some WD raptors (SATA) if you really want better performance (10k rpm compared to 7200).
MindDrive Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 yeah - the true performance of SATA is through a raid 0 configuration - which utilizes full 150Mb/s transfer rate as opposed to ATA133's 133MB's  im not sure what a single SATA drives transfer rate is - but if you install 1 SATA drive and then later get another SATA drive to try and put in RAID-0 you will need to format and install 3rd party drivers on re-installation of windows - documentation for this should come with the SATA drives  as for noticeing a performance boos - hell yeah u will - but not so much as for gaming - but loading of programs and software will scream - so technically - gaming performance will go faster when the game loads, maps load, and whatnot but actual "game play" performance is still limited by your processor and your graphix card
lilkev715 Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 My reply to this question is in the Hard Drive FAQ
ClayMeow Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 im not sure what a single SATA drives transfer rate is transfer rate is
crash Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 transfer rate is 150 Nope, maximum BURST transfer rate is 150 MB/sec. THG tested two new maxline III sata drives in raid 0 and saw 149MB/sec! A single run-of-the-mill sata drive will have a continuos transfer of around 50 - 60 MB/sec.

It's 33, 66, 100, 133 for the PATAs, 150 for SATA (currently).
