General912 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Hey guys Im getting some subs for my birthday. Im looking for a little bit of a kick but I want to keep a good sound going. Not to much thumpin. My budget is like $300 for amp and subs. Any Suggestions? Ive heard tons of things like 2 subs insnt nessicarly bettter to the size dosent nessicarly matter. My current system: Rears http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Infinity-5-...roductDetail.do Fronts http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Infinity-6-...roductDetail.do Deck http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id...cat03066&cmp=++ The speekers need to be amped because they are only drawing half the power they are rated for right now. So I am told anyways.
DevilMB3017 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 I'd suggest going with two 10in subs or 1 15 inch. If you want short, crisp hits, go for 10s. If you like rumbly long and held out bass, go for 15s. Get an amp that can power both subs and speakers (two channel)
AMD_Wannabe Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 smaller subs = better sound quality bigger = SPL for your budget and wants get a 10 good 10" sub brands audiobahn rockford fosgate kicker audiobahn will most likely be the lower price range as for amps kicker amps are good and cheap sony, only if your that dang desperate as for as channels to power all 4 speakers you need a 4 channel amp and a mono or dual channel for the subs, the dual channel can be bridged most of the time, giving the sub more power, you can also play around with ohms here, it gets fun i recommend the apline 5 channel amp, it will suit you very well, but it isnt cheap, so i just say do some shopping on ebay
Fanatic Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 1 Cerwin Vega 12" sub and a good cheap amp could be USAccoustics. Put the sub in an enclosed box for tighter bass or ported/bandpass for deeper looser base. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-yhVatIQeqIw/c...f=N&search=Amps http://store.yahoo.com/discave/vegcerveg10c.html

General912 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 If I where to do it myself how difficult is the installation? I mean with that us accustics amp where do the subs plug into. Im like a total and uber n00b at this.
airman Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 well it's really quite simple.... you plug the input for the amp into both of the rear slots of your head unit, and then you'll have seperate channels for the speakers and for the subs. it's really better to have to amps, one for the speakers, and one for the sub. you can go to a forum and find a guide the installation, well, it's easy if you know what you're doing, but it will come with instructions. do you have an american made car or an import? kibitzer99 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 hooking up an amp and subs isn't hard at all. the most difficult part will be running your wire, depending on your vehicle. the hot wire for the amp is the hardest, cuz you have to run it from the battery, through the firewall, and to the back of your car. i just got a new ride a couple months ago and finally got around to hooking up my stereo last week and i had to drill through the firewall cuz i had no other place to run my hot wire. but connecting everything is easy. like somebody else mentioned, just follow the instructions for your deck and amp and you'll be fine. i have one polk 10, and jensen 680 amp, and sealed enclosure, paid like 400 for it all. the amp is probably a little much if you want to just hook up a sub, and you could probably go wilth a smaller one for less money. but i'm also running two mids off mine, which is why i got a bigger amp. but it sounds good
AMD_Wannabe Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 installer tips run your RCA wires and remote wires across one side of the car and your power line across the other, this will eliminate 95% or line noise make the ground wire as short as possible make sure the area you attack the ground to is completely clean and free of rust and paint and anything else, bare metal is the best take your time, so it looks really fugging nice
