spathalogic Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Purpose: To play Final Fantasy XI; web design/ using various applications for web design (IE photoshop, etc.) + word processing. Requirements: 40 gigs, [harddrive]... but it should have a decent amount of ram, and a goooood processor.
ciddono Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 my only suggestion to to get more hard drive space, maybe 1 80 gig. You coiuld offset the price difference with a slightly lower vid card. I don't suppose she'd need the 9800, maybe a 9600 in the $150 price range. Plus, you don't have to get everything from newegg. Try Pricewatch to find the best deals on each part. InvaderTrax Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 (edited) If you wanna save time, I've got a P4 system for sale for $600. Specs: 2.4GHz P4 (northwood) FIC VC11 board (I know, not an OCer's dream) 384MB RAM (128MBx3) Powercolor Radeon 9700 (4500 in 3DMark03 on stock setting, never OCed) 80GB hard drive CDRW drive Keyboard and mouse included XP Pro already installed Computer's in great shape, only a few months old. Only defect is a small dent in the top of the case (no paint chips or anything, just a dent). Also, the picture is a little old, and I've since cleaned off the fingerprints (gotta protect my identity ). Free shipping if you're actually interested. If not, then the only thing I'd change about your plan is maybe only get 1x512 or 2x256. She won't really need 1GB (although it is nice to have) Edited September 9, 2004 by InvaderTrax
spathalogic Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 No thanks for the computer (thanks for the offer though ). I'm using newegg because I trust them.
battery Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 that ram is horrible...i'd go for 512mb of ram and much better quality over having a gig anyday...i'd rccomend 2x256 pc 3200 ocz enhanced bandwidth...
TheSternMystic Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 If you aren't overclocking, that ram is fine.
DECwakeboarder Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 If you arent OCing, that ram is more than fine, I would definitly throw in an 80 gig hd instead and cut corners on the gfx card tho
CheeseMan42 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 if the motherboard has onboard sound then it might make sense to not buy the soundcard.
Nemo Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 You can get a 2600+ for the same price at ZipZoomFly and they are every bit as good or better than Newegg (IMHO), or stick with the 2500+ for $78.
rein Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 (edited) the way i see it with the ram and video card thing is... you can always add another hard drive later but buying another video card will cost you more in the long run. MindDrive Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 hey invader - i built a puter using the same case - was a nice lil deal - 50 bucks for a set of speakers, case, keyboard and mouse ^_^
BiPolar Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 I'd look into a 2600+ Mobile chip, better for OC and faster overall. For Ram, stay away from value ram, check out the Patriot 2x512, they've got some good ram (according to reviews, and Clay Meow just bought some). For MOBO go DFI ultra infinity or abit nf7-s (then you don't have to buy a soundcard). Look into a new psu (antec/enermax) for cleaner voltage and more on the 12v rail.
