Mombo Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 ok im getting a new cpu for a friend and I have the 2.5 mobile and have it oc'ed to 3.2 which im sure I can do easily again with his. ( if anyone knows how to get it up higher that would be great I had it at 3.4 but it was a little unstable after long times) the question is will the 2.6 overclock just as well or better then the 2.5 or should I just stick with 2.5. Also how do you oc ram??? if it has something to do with the numbers what should I have my kingston hyperx 3200 set at?? Iggy Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 I think you're getting the 2500+ and 2600+ confused with 2.5 and 2.6 GHz processors. The 2500+ mobile runs default at 1.8 GHz, and the 2600+ mobile runs at 2 Ghz default. Most of the time they will oc in the 2.5-2.7 GHz range depending on the chip, voltage, motherboard, and cooling. It'd be theoretically possible to hit 3.2 GHz using a Vapochill LS, Prommie Mach II, LN2, or some advanced form of phase change cooling, but it would NOT be easy by any means. At that speed the CPU wouldn't last more than a year is my guess. I'm guess you have your CPU overclocked to the equivalent of a 3200+, which runs at 2.2 GHz. IMO the 2600+ mobile will o/c better than the 2500+. For o/c'ing ram, you can increase the fsb (thus increasing the ram speed) or change the ram timings in the bios. sandman1485 Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 What motherboard, cooling, and ram are you using?
Mombo Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 iggy is right on what I said and it is at 2.2 ghz which I estimated was about a 3.2.....I just dont know all the terms... im using a a7n8x del rev 2 hyperx 3200 and a coolermaster jet 7 next wed I will have my 2500+ in a DFI nforce2 infinity whatever the heck and a thermalright cooler not the sp-97 but one right under that 900a or whatever and a panaflo with same ram. so the 2500+ can overclock all the way to 2.5 to 2.7 ghz??? I hope this thermalright and DFI board can help me get coser to that.
