Ghost2520 Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Since I just got my first paycheck yesterday, I'm thinkin about upgrading my video card a bit. Since I hate the TV that I have to play my XBox on and my current TV tuner card SUCKS, I was lookin at getting a 9700 or 9800 AIW. With Fable and Halo 2 comin out I want to get my XBox hooked up to my PC as quickly as possible. Can any of you guys that have these cards take some screen shots for me of the quality of video in console games/recorded tv shows? Thanks. Iggy Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I had a AIW R7500 a while back with my GC hooked up to it, and it looked fine at 640x480, which is the default res for the RCA input. When it's fullscreen you're going to have to sit back though because it's really blurry. They may have improved on the tuner since that revision but I've seen the screenshots of the 9700 and 9800 AIW and there's almost no difference from the 7500. Still, you can't beat the IE plugin-play Xbox and surf OCC at the same time! As soon as I get my AIW 9800 Pro from Shadowfactor I'll get a couple of screenshots for ya. Ok thanks, I won't be ordering it for at least 2 weeks anyways. Just need it in time for Fable.
InvaderTrax Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I should mention a few things. The game quality between a 9700 and 9700 AIW is the same. Now, for TV, most of the AIW's are about the same, but the 8500 owns them all. It's the only one with a digital tuner instead of analog
andrusk Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Ive got the 9700 pro AIW and it has really quite good multimedia capabilities i must say. Plus the whole analog tuner thing doesnt really bother me becuase I have digital cable so I hook the cable up to the svideo input and just bypass the tuner. Really good image quality, great funcionality with the pvr funictions and the remote wonder control. Plus the sucker overclocks like a dream. You wont be dissapointed. Iggy Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Yeah, the 9700's are fabulous overclockers, and they voltmod like a dream. With a bit of extra cooling and some vmods you could have yourself quite the card there.
Ghost2520 Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 So your saying I should go with the 9700Pro AIW over the 9800Pro AIW? It would save me a few extra bucks? (quite a few actually) If the digital in the 8500 makes a huge difference I may pick one of those up in the future for a second computer. After I upgrade my CPU I'll have enough parts for a second computer. Andrusk, what do you get for benchmark scores on 3DMark03? InvaderTrax Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Well, the 9800 Pro would perform better out of the box, but the 9700 Pro could probably 'out OC' it. Anyway, if you do want to get an 8500 AIW for a second computer, PM me. I've got one fs for $70 (good price if you consider the cost of a digital tuner and a R8500)
Iggy Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 The 9800 Pro AIW wonder will outperform the 9700 Pro AIW at stock, but the 9700 Pro AIW should be able to hit 9800 Pro speeds. However the R350 core is more effecient than than the R300 core, and the 9800 Pro will outperform the 9700 Pro even at the same clock speeds. The 9700 Pro is more fun to mod though. Ghost2520 Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 I think I'll have to go for the 9800Pro, the 9700Pro is hard to track down, newegg doesn't sell it anymore and prices in froogle are more than the 9800Pro. Invader, I will want one but it won't be until the begining of next year... I just don't have enough cash to buy everything right now.
