Guest FxXP Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Well, its really not a MacOS X emulator, its made to emulate the PPC 750 (G3) processor. With it, you can run a PPC form of Linux, Darwin, or MacOS X. More info can be found at http://pearpc.sourceforge.net There are also "hacked" builds out there optimized for Athlon XP, P4, etc. So far I have managed to get the networking to work only once. It is something they are currently working on for future builds.
cybergrunt69 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 PearPC is good ('cause it's free), but it's also more than a little slow. I've never personally run this, but have seen it in action (in reviews), and it looks like it needs quite a bit of horsepower. Well, from the sigs that I've seen around OCC, I don't think that'll be too much of a problem. Also, here's some other related stuff in the same type of thread... http://www.emaculation.com/ppc.php http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=32178&...ead&cid=3475521 http://www.maconlinux.org/

cybergrunt69 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 From what I understand, the emulators run on top of the host OS but have OS-like control of the hardware (nice HAL hack). Since MS will not understand any other formats, it will essentially ignore it the CD after fumbling with it for a minute, and the emulated OS (with the appropriate hardware controls) will be able to see and use it. There shouldn't be any issues with your physical cd/dvd drive not recognizing the disk. I'm sure there will be issues with Linux distros recognizing some Cd formats, but its less of an issue than with MS.
