Can't Enable Dma

Recommended Posts

I have had the same problem before as well, even after reinstalling windows it would still come up. THe only thing I found that worked was I reverted my firmware for the DVD-RW drive back a couple revisions. But yeah give us some specs first and we can maybe try to narrow down the problem.

You are right, XP does enable DMA by default, however its like the controller gets stuff in PIO mode only and will not switch over to DMA. I have only experienced this problem on Intel chipsets.

when it comes to this, i know of a few things that may help....

first off, your MB drivers installed correctly?

2nd,

i noticed that sometimes....rarely...idk why...but an IDE controller would be set to PIO mode instead of DMA mode....

you can change this in computer management

yeah, i believe it is the drive bios/firmware

i had one that did that, i could set it to DMA from PIO, but as soon as i restarted it, or sometimes if i loaded several discs in it, it would set itself back to PIO it got old and slow so i replaced it, new one never has this problem......
