Darken_Sun Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 So I'm buying a Shuttle SN85G4 barebones system and I can't decide between a 3400+ and a 3700+. I figure that I can OC the 3400 to 3700 speeds for a lot less, but a second opinion is always good
GregP24 Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 Why not OC the 3700+?

If so a friend has one he sayd it runs a little hot (might be just his) but idk if OCing would be such a good idea if thats true. oralpain Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 (edited) The 3700+s are all CG revision chips, meaning they will probbaly do 2.5-2.6Ghz on air, but I HIGHLY doubt that even a 3700+ could do more than that. I've owned a variety of A64 chips and the C0 cores useually top out around 2.3-2.4GHz regardless of model and the CGs top out at slightly over 2.5GHz. That is assuming good, but not extreme air cooling and a safe vcore. Another 100Mhz more with better cooling and more voltage is a posibility, but any more than that and I'm quite sure you would need sub-ambient cooling. Make sure your system has an AGP/PCI lock if you intend to OC much. Edited August 19, 2004 by oralpain
