Cyberfury Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Hey! I just upgraded to a Radeon 9800XT. Whenever I play Doom 3 I tend to get little white specks that flitter through the graphics. They aren't their constantly, they just come and go. No other game gives me this problem, and I'm quite sure that it's not due to overheating (3DMark2003 run in a loop produces no problems). I have the Cats 4.7 - can't get the 4.9 betas for Win98 . If anyone's heard anything, let me know! I didn't have this problem with my old Radeon 9800 Non-pro. dling Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 whats your cpu speed, and amount of ram. both will also add or subtract to game quality. aswell as your vga setting .
Cyberfury Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 I've got a Barton 2500+ and 512MB generic RAM. I think it MAY just have something to do with my video card being under high stress without a TON of cooling being sent to it. Like I said, this didn't happen with my previous Radeon 9800 Non-pro, and it doesn't happen in any other games.
dling Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 how did it look on medium quality. same or better ?
HomerJaySimpson Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 If you're overclocking, that will cause the "specs"
Cyberfury Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 I haven't been home to try the medium quality yet. As for overclocking, no man, I have disabled all my overclocks until I get my new case, motherboard, and cooling setup. Was running a little toasty for my tastes. TheSternMystic Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 White specks like that, in overclocking, is from too hot memory. Try UNDERclocking your memory/gpu a bit, only temporary, and see if that helps? If the white specks are never to be seen again, it's because of overheating, and return the card saying it's defective, or buy some high quality cooling for it. Enyce2k9 Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 umm,try in XP,it might just be windows98. its your last hope before an RMA.
Cyberfury Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 Oh good lord, I ain't gonna RMA my card over this. I'm sure it's just a little to hot for it, or maybe it's my Catalyst drivers (4.7). I've heard people with the same problem that have had it fixed by the 4.9 Cats, but I can't get those for Win98SE yet. I'm also pretty sure it's not Windows 98 causing the specks, as other people have had the same problems.
