Leldorion Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 I've got a 9800 pro and the temps on the card are one of the few things that are heating up my case. To aleviate the problem I decided to take my old p4 heatsink and an 80mm fan I had lying around and placing that on there. I'd need to cut a few of the fins off of it so that it'll fit, but I'm worried about it still being too heavy for the two pins that hold it on there...any way I can fix this problem? Also, will it matter if I use an alternate source of power for the 80mm fan (the mobo in this case) as opposed to the 2 pronged supply connected to the card? It won't hurt anything right? Coolzero101 Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 use molex, and if you cut off fins use enough AS5, better yet I would lap the thing to after cutting it. Add suports on the heatsink, it will break your card if nothing else keeps it up.
Leldorion Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 I was figuring on lapping it, but why would you recommend molex over just a normal 3 pin into the board? More direct current? As it is it would just replace the blower I'm using now except be a bit larger. I'm also planning on using ceramique. How would you recommend I add supports?
