Coasters

OVERSTIMULATIONS

I recently re-built my computer, with a new HD and a new Optorite

DVD-RW, and I am constantly getting coasters, especially the higher the

speed. It rarely happens at 8X. I've had trouble with varios media.

My computer is quite modern, running XP Pro; resources are likely not

an issue. It is set up as a 2nd master. A related issue is that I had

trouble with the old CD-RW; it would constantly pull disappearing acts

out of nowhere: worked fine b4 the rebuild. I finally disconnected it.

I get an ATAPI error/ hardware error..it suggests I check ATAPI cable,

master/slave order, connection, etc. I have tried different cables.

Also, I had enormous troulbe burning DVD's; I finally managed to burn a

few. Any advice on this matter???

Dustin

have you tried a different make of dvd disk?

some are much better quality than others, also some disc will only write at a set speed so try lowering the burn speed to lowest then if it works move up to the next speed untill u find the right setting for the disc's

this is not unusual with the optorites out of the box. 1 of the 3 steps below will take care of it

1: burn slower till faster disks come out

2: firmware upgrade

3: change the brand of media you're using.

I had this same problem not to long ago, option #3 solved it for me! The media was the high dollar retail media off the shelf at Sams and BestBuy. I went to a cheaper media and have not had a bad one since.

Plextor 708a

However, correct me if I'm wrong on this. BUT pio is not a supported xfer for most fast cdr drives, I would think it would not work for dvd at all. However you have proved that you can write with pio to a dvd at slower speeds.
