skuppers Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) Ok guys, Here it is. We have $2000 Canadian bux to spend on a PC upgrade for a bud of mine. We want one of the TOP graphics cards ( he wants NVIDIA ) and we want 1GB of ram to start off with. What else should we purchase and can someone provide a good list of items we should consider buying? Thanks for all the help guys and I will check this post a couple times today. I appreciate all feedback regarding this because I am someone who likes to do their homework before purchasing and finding out you made a big mistake I think we will probably need mobo/cpu/ram/videocard/soundcard/watercooler/psu anthing I'm missing? SLEDGe knows how to Keep it ninja Edited August 13, 2004 by skuppers
snipermav Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 The top video card from nvidia is the 6800 Ultra. You didn't specify what kind of system you want...AMD XP? P4? Athlon 64? The important hardware that you will choose revolves around that decision.
skuppers Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) I am open to debate on this subject. I personally have an Intel P4 2.6 at home and I find no problems with it WHAT so ever. For the sake of speeding up the process, lets say either Athlon 64 or Intel can be used. And I believe that we will go with a 6800GT or Ultra. Which ever is around $600CDN. Also I have listed my system specs if you want. 2 - 512MB PC 3200RAM Kingston Value 400MHz(CAS 3 rated) 1 - Intel 2.6GHz on Asus P4P800 1 - Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB 1 - Sound Blaster Audigy2 1 - 80GB Seagate ( Games Partition ) 1 - 30GB Seagate ( Windows Partition ) 1 - 1GB Swap file ( From 30GB Windows Seagate, partitioned ) 1 - Evercool 5.25" EC-WC-101 Water Cooling Kit ( Generally Runs no hotter than 29 degrees @ full load during farcry or Doom3 ) 2 - rear case fans ( 2 exhaust ) 1 - front intake fan 1 - side window intake fan 1 - 420 WATT RaidMax PSU rated 18 on 12V rail. ( I said 16 cuz I missed it ) 1 - Viewsonic g90fb monitor capable of 160hz @ 800X600. p.s. I play doom3 on ULTRA QUALITY in 1024X768 with no problems or slow-downs. snipermav Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Maybe like a 939 3500+ or 3800+ instead. Edit: Wait, are you upgrading your system or building a new one? I'm confused as to why you listed your specs. If you want to upgrade yours get better RAM and a new vid card, and that's all you need. And what the heck is a 16V rail on a power supply??? skuppers Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I think he said he has the mobo/cpu already, what else would we recommend for upgrades using $2000? Keep in mind that's canadian I use www.ncix.com for almost all purchases.

LobbDogg Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Do a A64 3500+ with board, 1 gig of ram, 6800 ultra. Will probably be a little tight , but that is what I'd do.
